Stories of Achievement

Nethmi joined ESOL College International as a shy 6-year-old in the Beginners 1 class at our Maharagama branch. Over the next 8 years, she progressed through every level of our programme, achieving outstanding results at each Cambridge examination along the way. Her mother, Mrs. Rajapaksa, recalls: "When Nethmi first started, she could barely say 'hello' in English. Watching her grow from a nervous child who wouldn't speak in class to a confident teenager who now thinks in English has been remarkable." Nethmi achieved 5 shields in all three components of her Starters exam, followed by consistently high performance in Movers and Flyers. Her KET result placed her in the top 5% nationally, and she went on to achieve a Grade A in her FCE examination — one of only 12 students in Sri Lanka to do so that year. Now 14, Nethmi is considering pursuing her A-levels in the UK and credits ESOL College for giving her the foundation she needed. "My teachers at ESOL didn't just teach me English — they taught me how to communicate, how to think critically, and how to believe in myself," she says.

Kasun enrolled in ESOL College's KET preparation course at our Kaduwela branch as a 13-year-old with limited English skills. Within two years, he had progressed through KET and PET, achieving exceptional results in both examinations. His PET certificate, combined with his strong academic record, helped him secure a full scholarship to an international university in Malaysia. "The structured approach at ESOL College made all the difference," Kasun explains. "Each level built perfectly on the previous one, and the exam preparation was thorough and practical." Kasun is now in his second year of a Computer Science degree and plans to pursue a career in software development. He returns to ESOL College during holidays to mentor current students.

Amaya achieved the rare distinction of receiving 5 shields in all three components — Reading and Writing, Listening, and Speaking — in her Cambridge Flyers examination. This perfect score placed her among the highest achievers in the country. Her teacher, Ms. Sanduni, credits Amaya's dedication and the consistent practice she put in both inside and outside the classroom. "Amaya was always curious, always asking questions. She read voraciously and practiced speaking English at home with her family, which made a tremendous difference."
